The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul

I have generally been optimistic about America's future. As an example of my faith in my fellow citizens' IQ and seriousness of purpose, I have never blamed a jury for the loss of any case I tried. I thought the juries were smart and dedicated to the purpose of doing justice. But lately....

First there was Idiocracy, the movie. Now we seem to be getting ready for Idiocracy II, the reality. And I despair.

What is this a reference to?
It's a title of a Dirk somebody holistic detective agency novel by Douglas Adams but that title is a reference to The Long Dark Night of the Soul, a poem by Catholic mystic saint St. John of the Cross. Heavier stuff than appropriate for a teatime.
You get too obscure, you're gonna drive away your two readers.

I might be fooling myself, but I think the lack of posting drives more away than what someone (not me) would call obscure postings or comments. I appreciate your hanging in with my poor little blog, now in its 11th year of obscurity.
