Thought of the Day

Based on her lifetime of experience working as a firefighter, [Justice] Ginsburg said: "Relying heavily on written tests to select fire officers is a questionable practice, to say the least." Liberals prefer a more objective test, such as race.

Isn't excelling on written tests how Ruth Bader Ginsburg got where she is? It's curious how people whose entire careers are based on doing well on tests find them so irrelevant to other people's jobs.

Dear Ann,

In case you had not noticed, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a Supreme Court Justice who, like you is a graduate of Cornell University--not the Ag school, and was mostly an academic prior to being appointed to the SC.

Academics and lawyer types get ahead by taking tests.

I know that FFs take tests but except for the practical part of such tests, I am uncertain to what degree the written part makes them better FFs.

You know, Ann Coulter has a website and means of communication detailed there, I think it is called e-mail. Just a suggestion.

They used to have the chief pick the best people, in his view, for the jobs available through promotion. The test taking was a way to get it out of subjective choices which often kept any minorities out of the higher jobs. If you have a better way to make it objective other than a test, there are plenty of figher fighter administrators who would love to hear it.

Rog,

I saw a question from the test on The Colbert Report last night. It was a spelling question.

And that fact refutes what, exactly?
