It's Not So Much What He Says...

President Obama today at Buchenwald:

This place teaches us that we must be ever-vigilant about the spread of evil in our own time, that we must reject the false comfort that others' suffering is not our problem, and commit ourselves to resisting those who would subjugate others to serve their own interests.

Tough for him to explain then his opposition, even now, to our liberation of the Iraqi people from the Hitler like tyrant Saddam Hussein. Perhaps he is unable to make such connections in his mind. Many pathological narcissists can't.

Roger,

I am reminded of a cartoon whose caption was a quote from an anonymous GI in Normandy after D Day.

It depicts two GIs in the middle of a ruined French village. One says to the other: "We sure liberated the hell out of this place."

We did some damage, I am sure, to less than 5% of the Iraqi infrastructure. Damn us for our hubris. Death to Neocons!

Roger,

The infrastructure was and remains in dreadfull condition. We were, alas. unable to fix it once the country reverted to a state of civil war and terrorism.

Please do not forget the huge number of Iraqis who were and remain, internally or externally displaced.

While we are at it, we may as well recall how some sectarians targeted the intelligencia and the professional class.

Who was it who remarked that the most significan events of the Iraqi war have yet to occur?

I remain in the camp of thse who believe that whta we achieved was not worth the cost and that our strategic interests were not well served.

I've heard of the great dislocation of Iraqis during Saddam's reign of terror and the slightly smaller return following Iraqi liberation. I've also heard of the second dislocation during the height of the near civil war there following the blowing up of the Golden Mosque dome. I have not heard what's been happening lately. Have you?
I don't know who said what you quoted. Is there still a war on there?
Finally, I, for one, can't put a price on freedom from a tyrant for 25 million people. Apparently, you can. Wow.
