Shooting Rudolph

Although the Christmas season has only just started, I already am sick of the carols, especially the non religious ones. If I hear Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer one more time, I may do what clearly Governor Palin did in this absolutely authentic fautograph.
I'd use the Dragunov SVD sniper rifle too, if I owned one.
That looks like a European Red Deer Stag in velvet, but the color of the cape is wrong. Bractrian? Maral? It's absolutely not native to North America.
Looks like a good shot though, by golly.

I guess "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reinwapiti*" didn't scan well enough.

Pity.

* Reinelk is insufficiently disambiguatory** (not to mention culturally insensitive), being as it would not be clear whether this would be a subspecies of cervus canadensis or alces alces.

** Would you pass up the opportunity to write "insufficiently disambiguatory"? I mean, how much longer would have to wait for the next chance?

Thank you Doug.

I know. I have problems distinguishing cervus from alces but I know a European stag from an Alaskan deer or caribou (which I believe is of the genus rangifer). Thanks for the lesson in both animal names and rhetoric. I know I'm more edified.
