Like Fredo to Michael

Peggy Noonan is dead to me. I never really liked her to begin with but when you write one thing and then say the opposite, I have no reason to believe you ever again. Have a good unread, unlistened to (by me) life.

"Alas Poor Noonan. I knew her Horatio. A speech writer of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; she has borne me on her prose a thousand times; and now how abhorred my imagination it is!"

I wonder how much brou ha ha will come of VP candidate's version of "Sarah Palin and the Bridge to Nowhere" which version seems to be a omplete fairytale, not even rinsing to the level of truthiness.

Then will La Noonan excliam, "O my prophetic soul!"

Bill, you can quit with the selling of Palin lied about the Bridge nonsense. I'm not buying. Don Young's earmark was passed by Congress, signed by the President and the bridge wasn't built because of Palin's decision. Facts, Bill. They can be your friends.

B.S. Roger.

Facts: In November, 2005, congress stripped the specific earmark allocation of federal funds for the Gravina Island and Knik Arm bridges without changing the amount of money allocated for use by Alaska.

Governor Palin had supported the Gravina Island bridge project. She wanted the federal funds and was also willing to allocate state funds. Only in 2007 did she cancel the project, changing her position after congress forced Alaska to use the funds elesewhere.

Palin then stated:

"Ketchikan desires a better way to reach the airport [than the ferry] but the $398 million is not the answer. Despite the work of our congressional delegation, we are about $329 million short of full funding for the bridge project, and it's clear that congress has little interest in spending any more money on the bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island. Much of the public's attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portaryals of the projects here. But we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened."

This is from a Septemnber 21, 2007 press release from the governor's office, nearly 2 years after congress stripped the earmarks.

She never said, "Thanks but no thanks." She just said "Thanks."

I do not fault her for trying to obtain every dollar she could for her constituents in Wassilla and Alaska.

But to stand up before the world and lie about it is another thing altogether.

Bill, tell me the bill number where Congress "stripped" the specific earmark but left the amount of money to Alaska the same. I'm readying the use of the letters BS myself.

Bill, this story (http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/22/alaska.bridge.ap/) says that the money was given to Alaska to spend as it wanted and Palin killed the project. So BS to you're she lied talking point. Sorry I doubted you on the stripping the earmark without stripping the money. In retrospect that sounds just like our Congress.

Well Roger try an NYT article by Carl Hulse date 11.17.05. The earmark was stripped and AL could have still spent the $ to build the bridge but 2 years later La Palin figured out which way the political winds were blowing.

"Thanks for the money Congress but after putting my finger in my mouth and then determining which side of it seemed chilly, I cancelled the project.

I know that most of you do not understand that I was merely doing God's will on this, but that's alright, I can probably explain it if you nderstand what I say when I am speaking in tongues."
