Apparently My Decoding Ring is No Longer Valid

David Gergen said this on a Sunday talking head show:

I think the McCain campaign has been scrupulous about not directly saying it, but it's the subtext of this campaign. Everybody knows that. There are certain kinds of signals. As a native of the south, I can tell you, when you see this Charlton Heston ad, 'The One,' that's code for, 'he's uppity, he ought to stay in his place.' Everybody gets that who is from a southern background. We all understand that.

I'm from the South (and proud of it), and I don't 'understand' that text at all. Comparing Obama to Moses is a comment on Obama's undeserved massive ego, not his race. Gergen is as ignorant and wrong about that as Hypersensitive Herbert was about the appearances of either the Tower of Pisa or the Washington Monument in another ad. It was the Siegessaule, the Prussian victory column in Berlin, where Obama recently gave a very unfortunate speech. It was in all the papers.

Herbert was always the least of the regular NYT columnists, but until recently I didn't think he was a complete idiot.

UPDATE: If you ever doubted that the liberal dominent media was a self censoring echo chamber, then explain to me why Keith Olbermann at the little watched MSNBC saw the same nonexisant towers in the ad that Mr. Hebert fantasized? Failed sportscaster Olbermann will apparently slavishly repeat any untruth which denegrates a Republican. I had no doubt that he was a fatuous fraud.
