Jihad as Crime

Jose Padilla, aka Abdullah al-Muhajir, and his two co-defendants, Adham Amin Hassoun and Kifah Wael Jayyousi, were all convicted on all counts in federal court in Miami of supporting terrorists activities and conspiring to be terrorists, and will be sentenced on December 5, 2007.

So we treated Padilla's form of waging war against us as if it were a crime like bank robbery or wire fraud. Let's see if the lefties decrying his treatment as an illegal enemy combatant are happy now. I'm betting not.

Imagine an acquittal. Banner headlines: "Bush 'War on Terror' Gets Stinging Rebuke" or some such formula with the word "stinging" in it.

Well imagined. I'm also glad it didn't happen.

What happened to the allegations regarding the dirty bomb? I am all for dealing appropriately w/ armed combatants and criminals, however, this administration sometimes pumps up its job success by exaggerating the facts. Where are the rstwhile bombers of teh Sears Tower?

We didn't charge the dirty bomb stuff because it would have required us to burn a source with criminal court discovery and, get this, we couldn't use his confession to the dirty bomb plot because we didn't mirandize him and supply him with a lawyer quickly. But I have no idea where the Sears Tower bombers are. I hope in a secret prison somewhere but I doubt it.
