Timely Reminder

Get out and vote today. Voting is your ticket to political discussions. If you don't vote, you can't complain about the government for the next two years.

Rog,

For those of us living in Colorado, allow yourself plenty of time. The process this year is not quick.

Gone are the precincts so I arrived @ Cheery Valley Elementary School @ 7:50 a.m. I was the 18th person in line. I walked out 1 hour and 22 minutes later.

I was near to the voting machines and in front of the election judges table @ straight up 9:00 a.m. I asked how many people had voted @ the 2 machines since they opened @ 7:00 and was advised 33.

Each machine had allowed 8.25 people per hour to vote and the judge said that it was expected that each voter would require 10 minutes.

The ballot is long and using the electronic machines takes time even if you know how you are going to vote.

Cheers,

T

Early voting is your friend. I voted two weeks ago, and it took me about 10 minutes. (I was quite pleased with the machines Adams County was using.)

Doug,

I was in front of an ALJ today who endorsed voting by absentee ballot. I think your idea is a good one so long as you go weeks early as you did. My wife voted early Friday and was subjected to an interminable line @ a local fire station.

I always liked the ambiance of voting on election day but after today, I may well rethink that.

Cheers,

T

I actually have some problems with the increase in absentee voting. I think it raises the probability of interference with voting independence (spouses voting for each other, or pay for votes) because it is not inherently as secret, as well as being more susceptible to actual fraud (because it is more secret, but in the wrong way).

I don't see the same problems with early voting under conditions more like an election-day precinct. Adams County's early voting used several centers that used the same computer equipment as is being used today, which also allows for training of election workers under a lower-pressure environment.

FWIW, I haven't seen reports of many problems in Adams today, though I haven't been following the news much.
