Rare Sports Post

Tiger takes the British Open by two strokes. Cries, appropriately.

Another American takes the Tour de France (Floyd Landis, with an arthritic hip in need of replacement--like me) despite a concerted French effort to eliminate the top non-French competition with iffy doping charges.

The Rockies actually score some runs in the 9th to rally and take one against the Diamondbacks.

NFL training camps for this season have either started or are mere days away.

And at least for a few more hours, all is right in the sports world.

Comments:
"despite a concerted French effort to eliminate the top non-French competition with iffy doping charges."

This statement is absurd. Since there are no Frenchmen who were ever going to challenge for the Tour Title, what good would it do to eliminate their competition? Moreover, it wasn't the French who "eliminated" the suspected drug users, it was their own teams, most of which were not French sponsored, ie. T-Mobile.

By the way Roger, what do you think the failure of afro-americans to do well in Le Tour says about the state of race relations in America today?

The dope charges were the only thing that came up in my mind as being negative in the whole thing. The two top competitors being tossed for doping.

But I'm going to agree with your thesis which is that all is right in the sports world, for now.

Hell, my Giants even won 5 strait and came within a run of sweeping San Diego!

Thank God theres no one on the Giants that is involved with "doping".

Anon, since the Tour de France doesn't take place in America I have to say the paucity of black bicyclists on it says nothing about the state of race relations in America today. You do know that it took place in France, don't you?
Mike, a Giants fan, huh? It takes all kinds (I saw Bonds hit 698 here in Denver--he does look a little bigger in the chest and shoulders). And, as an honest judge, I have to say 'touche' for Anon in his second statement. Well done.

"And, as an honest judge, I have to say 'touche' for Anon in his second statement. Well done."

Thanks Rog.

Actually part of the Tour de France was raced in Belgium. In any event, congradulations to Floyd Landis for an incredible performance. After watching D-Wade in the NBA championships and now Landis, I'm beginning to believe that there are no limits as to what the modern day athelete can acomplish with the right amount of talent, work ethic, and will to win.

Yea, Giants fan. Bay Area kid.

Raiders fan too. I know. You don't have to say it.

Good point on Barry although he hasn't been convicted of anything. I don't like trying people in the media.

Never was a Barry fan myself. I am convinced he is of the same ilk as Chris Webber. Great stats, no championships.....ever.

Nothing wrong with being a Giants (bb) Raiders fan. I was a niners fan until they started winning. I was probably graduated from Stanford before you were born.
