Jeff Goldstein Has Survived the Frisch Attack With Humor Intact

Or so it appears to me from our most successful local blogger's take down of the gift that keeps on giving, Howard Dean. Money quote:

“This country is in the worst shape since Richard Nixon, and probably before that,” Dean said.

“We’ve lost the high moral high ground everywhere in the world. We want to be respected around the world again.

Ah, how I do so love DNC calculus. To wit: freeing 50 million people from totalitarian regimes and spreading democracy = loss of moral high ground; pandering for international “respect” from those who took money from Saddam in exchange for blocking the way for the destruction of his regime = moral high ground.

Had Dean mentioned gay marriage, he’d be Andrew Sullivan.

I'm proud I know the guy.

Rog,

On my way to a depo hence I must be brief but a few comments and a question of various topics. So far as your first and this comment are concerned, I was, for a change listening to NPR this morning, when I heard the report of more carnage in Iraq including a shepherd who was killed in his pasture when he went to retrieve the severed head of a teenage girl which exploded when he picked it up.

I am quite certain he is happy the US liberated his country. Certainly the occpants of 3 trucks bearing Ministry of Defense emblems who pulled up outside a bank and then robbed it of the equivalent of a million dolars are very happy w/ the liberation. It is unknown at this time whether the robbers were merely dressed liked personnel from Ministry of Defense or werfe actually employed by the Ministry.

Back to Durham. I understand that DA Nifong is seeking to subpoena the student cards of all the lacrosse team members in an attempt to establish their whereabouts during the alleged rape of the alleged exotic dancer.
Why would he do this? I have been unable to substantiate reports that Mr. Nifong has not been seen since last week and that there is a note posted on his door that says: "Gon fishin"

If you know, please advise whether napalm is still part of US weaponry and if not, why not.

Cheers,

T

I believe we do use a weapon very much like napalm but we don't call it that anymore for PR reasons. I can't recall what it's called (aviation fuel and polystyrene) but it's in the MK 77 bomb.
Thanks for the tip on Nifong.
Iraq was a horrible place under Saddam. Now it's slightly less horrible and if Sistani makes the right moves soon, noticeably less horrible. One outfit says there were 5 million people went missing in Iraq under Saddam. That's almost certainly too high but is 1 million horrible enough. I read 18,000 Iraqis died this year. Let's round it to 35,000 per year. Just 30 years at that rate to equal Saddam.
