This Day in Ancient History

On this day in 211 AD, 64 year old Emperor of Rome Septimus Severus dies in Eboracum (York), England after nearly 18 years rule. What the heck was he doing in York? He is counted as one of the good Emperors for calming things down and cleaning up the mess left after the murder of Commodus. Severus' sons, Caracalla, 25, and Geta, 21, who could never get along, take over as joint rulers of the Empire. Caracalla later builds a huge public baths near Rome, the ruins of which are still impressive.
