Abramoff Cops a Plea
Former uber-lobbyist and now felon Jack Abramoff took the deal just before the time limit set by the Court last week (and commented on here by me). In a slightly weird thing, the trial he was up against next week was in Florida but he pled out today in Washington. Apparently there will be a second act in Florida soon. He clearly has to name names and turn over everything he has to prosecutors.
And we know little of the dirt he has to dish. It looks like Congressman Bob Ney (R-OH) might well be toast and we know that Tom DeLay went golfing with Jack, but whether DeLay was corrupted by that or was committing a crime to take the trip, still not clear. If I had to guess about the magnitude of the scandal. I'd guess 6.5 on the richter--those in the immediate area will feel it--but no huge damage, in other words, no bigger than the Rostenkowski thing which was bad, but hardly anyone remembers it unless they are projecting to the present.
