This Day in Ancient History
On this day in 1 AD, God, that is, the son of God became flesh and was born of the virgin Mary in Bethlehem so that those who follow him will have everlasting life after their death.
There are a lot of Mithraic elements in the Christmas story--shepherds, humble birth, Jesus called the Prince of Light--but it is a unique and quite lovely story.
Ann Coulter points out that Joseph and Mary were not homeless people (as a lot of lefties try to imply), but were traveling back to their hometown so that they could be taxed--a scheme, Ann says, that could only have been thought up by a collectivist, in that particular case, the Emperor Augustus. I have to admit that I do not know what political theory Augustus followed. Merry Christmas and God bless us every one.

Merry Christmas Roger. Did you decorate a palm tree in FL or was it a southern pine? The ladies are still asleep, allowing me time for a brief question. Who are the lefties that imply Mary and Joseph were homeless? Or were you referring to a misinformed moiety of a pitching staff?
Merry Christmas to you both. It was good to see the folks who are doing OK, but it's also good to be home.
Now, to Tony's question: These are the ones I found with 20 seconds googling (they seem to be mainly in 1999) Atlanta Constitution, December 28, 1999 A9; Jesse Jackson "The Homeless Couple", LAT, December 22, 1999; Barbara Reynolds, “These political Christians neither religious nor right,” USA Today (Nov. 18, 1994), 13A; and, Hillary Clinton USA Today (December 1, 1999), 15A. My memory is that there were more but less famous than Jackson and Clinton.

I`ve never heard anyone saying that they were poor and homeless.
The Inn was simply filled up because everyone had gathered for the tax cencus.
As to the parents, one was a carpenter, and therefore had a craft, meaning he was pretty much in demand, and self-employed.
I`m a lefty, and I always thought they were middle class......!!!!

Tony, none that I could find but my googling skills are not legendary to say the least. Amd Zep, yea, no room at the inn, not no money to pay for a room. My Christian education tracks with yours. Happy New Year to you both. I'm off to the airport to pick up my three children flying in (on different planes--don't ask) from New York. Difficult for life to get much better.
