Thought of the Day

It's no good trying to keep up old friendships. It's painful for both sides. The fact is, one grows out of people, and the only thing is to face it.

W. Somerset Maugham

Comments:
This "thought of the day" touched a nerve.
I think that this was one of the hardest lessons about growing up. I always felt that a friend was for life. Not so. My grandmother told me that one was very lucky if they had "five good friends that they could count on, one hand" and as I have grown up I have to agree with her. Tenacious as I am, I had a best friend since 6th grade but due to a falling out in our late 30’s we stopped talking for ten long years. I never gave up and today it is as though those ten years never happened. If friends are not forever then when you truly have a good friend, I think that one must do whatever it takes to preserve that relationship. Any relationship takes work. I don’t believe that one has lots of friend but perhaps many acquaintances and a few close friends.

Are we talking about R.P.?Sure fits. Ha,Ha.
