High Speed Trains
There's a line in an historical novel I read (but can't remember its title) in which the hero is responding to a former slave blaming his own short-comings on slavery. The hero says something like: "You're still blaming slavery? Come on, man. It's 1876!"
I was struck by the President's plan in the State of the Union address tospend taxpayer money or borrow on invest in high speed trains. All I can think of is: "Trains? Trains, really? Come on, man. It's 2011."
We swamped by sky high federal spending, drowning in government debt, and President Obama is proposing more government spending on trains and windmills as the way out? How did this fool get elected to anything?

Credit Where Credit's Due
Had lunch with Diomedes and he said I should say something good about Obama. OK, here goes.
Good one.
What could be more frightening than a pseudo robot attack (well, I guess a real robot attack)? Keep up the pressure, Commander in Chief. I hope he settles on a unified counter insurgency in Afghanistan soon. We as a nation will soon tire of 10 casualties (eight wounded two killed) a day there with no perceptable improvement of the situation. Oops, I see I've wandered into criticism again, my default position, I guess. I'll stop with praise for continued use of the Predator, et al.

Buyer's Remorse

What could go wrong with a short service Congressman and Senator with no executive experience and firmly held socialist beliefs being placed in one of the most difficult jobs on Earth? No person could probably have lived up to the expectations generated by candidate Obama but our President is beginning LBJ's third term with stumble after stumble, an incomplete cabinet, a woefully inept foreign policy, massive wasteful spending and a striking inability to solve the nation's serious financial problems. Even his former supporters are asking, "Is this guy in over his head?"
No, duh, as the youngsters used to say.
