This Day in the History of TV Worth Watching

On this day in 1955, Jackie Gleason's The Honeymooners debuted on CBS and had a short run of only 39 episodes. It grew out of a skit on Gleason's Cavalcade of Stars and after a lackluster viewership and cancellation, there were a few more skits with the characters in Gleason's '56 variety show as well as some of his hourlong variety show broadcasts between 1966 and 1971. It was filmed before a live audience and rebroadcast later and was about lower middle class people perhaps even the working poor. Few shows since have showed that strata. I'm led to believe it hasn't aged well.

You obviously do NOT own any of "The Honeymooners" DVD's, based on your incredibly ludicrous statement about this series not having aged well. Quite the contrary! Despite the show having taken place in the mid-1950's, every one of the plot lines, and most of the dialog, sans the '50's references, are as fresh and amazingly relevant (and more importantly, funny) today as they were back then. In fact, this is the genious of TH, among other attributes. That it continues to be a shining oasis amidst a vast desert of comedy mediocrity is a tribute to the best TV comedy show ever produced.
